Nic Sheff’s heartbreaking and inspiring struggle with substance use disorder is the storyline of the critically acclaimed film, Beautiful Boy. The film is based off Nic’s New York Times bestselling memoir, Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines. Beautiful Boy premiered in 2018 starring Timothée Chalamet as Nic and Steve Carell as his father, David and earned Golden Globe and SAG nominations.

Nic’s story shares an unglamorized, authentic, and heartwarming story of substance abuse and recovery rooted in mental illness. He been recognized as a “life-changing speaker” who’s deeply engaging talks put a compelling human face to substance use disorder and encourages those who struggle to embrace help, find the strength to change, and provide hope.

Sober since 2011, Nic continues to write and travel the country to speak about substance use disorder, mental health, bipolar disorder, and finding life in recovery. Nic drew upon his struggles to write for Netflix’s series, 13 Reasons Why and ABC Family/Freeform’s series Recovery Road. He was also a writer on AMC's crime drama The Killing and has written several features and developed TV series with Warner Brothers, USA, Amazon, and Paramount Television. Nic appeared to share his story on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Fresh Air with Terry Gross and on CNN with Sanjay Gupta and ABC with Diane Sawyer.
